Embrace the Unknown – Art on the Spectrum
Discovering that I am an autist changed everything for me.
Now, I want to highlight women autists through a whole new body of work in my next exhibition – welcome!
In the fall of 2021, at the age of 55, I discovered that I am an autist. This means that my body operates under an ”autistic operating system,” which causes me to experience and perceive the world differently than neurotypical individuals.
Finally understanding myself completely brought an end to my lifelong search for answers.
I also realized that my autistic traits have led to my success in my previous business, but have also caused me to face significant challenges and experience severe autistic burnout.
Unfortunately, there is still a significant knowledge gap surrounding the ”spectrum brain,” and many individuals continue to suffer due to society’s ignorance.
I believe that it is crucial to recognize and appreciate the uniqueness of every individual and their contributions to society.
Therefore, I decided to create an exhibition lifting and acknowledging female autists, as they are often the least understood and researched.
While it might look like she doesn’t care,
inside, she harbors every feeling, from euphoria to the deepest despair.
Ask for her opinion & she’ll honestly speak her mind.
Ask for her obedience, and she’ll run – she cannot be confined.
Show her your deep & honest respect,
and she’ll be the most loyal partner you’ve ever met.
Through a form of icon painting together with short texts, I highlight the strengths and challenges of perceiving the world differently.
I hope that my exhibition will encourage others to embrace the unknown and appreciate the differences within ourselves and others.
She’d never judge you, call you weird or odd – she knows all about being seen as flawed.
The exhibition is called ”Embrace the Unknown – Art on the Spectrum.”
It will feature a whole new body of work with acrylic and mixed media paintings by me, and show at Galleri Shine, Hamngatan 5A, Vaxholm, from May 24-26, 2024.
The exhibition is open Friday from 10 am-7 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am-5 pm.
Everyone is welcome, and I hope to see you there!
Please subscribe to my newsletter, and you will be the first to meet any new paintings.
